Free Pattern: African Flower Hexagon

Hey y'all!  I always thought that there were two types of people: knitters and crocheters. Well, I have become both!  While browsing Pinterest I came across this wonderful pattern: Heidi Bear's African Flower Hexagon.  The only problem was that I didn't know how to crochet...Well, last Wednesday I decided that I would go from 0 to crocheter in order to try my hand at these beautiful hexagons.  The first hexagon I made took me 3 hours.  Seriously!  But now they only take about 45 minutes from start to finish.  This youtube tutorial really helped me out.  It is slightly different from Heidi Bear's tutorial so I think I have ended up with a sort of hybrid between the two.

For the project I used Sugar'n Cream 100% cotton yarn in:
Hot Pink
Hot Orange
Hot Blue
Hot Green
Hot Purple

I decided to make a bunch of these then put them together to make a blanket.  It will be a big project but since each hexagon is a quick project in itself hopefully it won't feel too tedious.  Using four colors per hexagon out of five color total there are 120 different color combinations so no two hexagons will be exactly alike.  Making 120 hexagons and attaching them 10 * 12 will make an approximately 50 inch * 60 inch blanket by my calculations.  Making one hexagon each day will take me about 4 months to complete and since one each day isn't a realistic expectation (I'm due in one month for baby boy #2!) I just hope to have it done by the end of the year!

Free Knitting Pattern: Preemie/Newborn Booties

Only 9 more weeks until my little one is due to arrive!  I knitted up these little booties for him and I plan on making him more in various colors.

The pattern can be found here.  They can be worn folded like this:

but I prefer them left up like boots.

Too cute!
